VANDA 'Bitz Delight'

Vanda Bitz Heartthrob x V. Kultana Delight. They are huge orchids which can have more than one spike at a time. The flowers are large 4-5 inch size and leathery. The flowers are maroon - violet and the spots resemble that of Bitz Heartthrob.

Monopodial vs Sympodial Orchids

Monopodial Orchids produce new growth from the crown (tip) of the plants. Vanda is a perfect example. They do not have pseudobulbs. They have aerial roots along the stem. The plants classically grow tall clinging to a support. Repotting is not a necessity as the plant grows upwards. However top cuttings are used for vegetative propagation.

Sympodial Orchids produce lateral growth (side to side). Oncidium, Dendrobium etc are examples. They have pseudobulbs. They need repotting due to the sidewards growth. The pseudobulbs usually appear from an underground rhizome (seed), which is split for propagation.
